Intro

A Day Hiking In Wine Country

Late Morning

Arrive in Areni Village, famous for its Areni-1 cave where the world’s oldest known winery was found. The village hosts many vineyards, wineries, and outdoor bazaar.

Afternoon

After lunch, visit Gnisik Foundation just outside of Areni to arrange a guided hike to Noravank Monastery, one of the most iconic landmarks in Armenia. The guide can bring a bag lunch or arrange a stop at a local restaurant. Continue hiking from Noravank monastery to Areni-1 cave.

Evening

Take a taxi from Areni to Yeghegnadzor town. There are several public busses connecting the villages of Vayots Dzor as well, however the signs on the buses usually contain only Armenian text, and drivers are unlikely to speak English.

Sundown and overnight

Have dinner and overnight at the hotel or B&B in Yeghegnadzor
